Create a Portrait

Become a Souls Shot Portrait Project Artist

All artists over 25 years of age, working in any media, are welcome to apply.

Artists will be randomly paired with a family or friend of a victim (or many work with a family member or friend of a victim already known to them).

The definition of a portrait is to be broadly interpreted. The goal is to present diverse works that in some way show the essence of the person being portrayed. The artist will communicate with the family or friend, receive source material such as photographs and stories, and then create a portrait.

Artists will be reviewed by a jury before being notified of their acceptance. Accepted artists will create a portrait of a victim of gun violence. Artists who have already created such a work may submit it for consideration.

You can learn more about our current and past artists by viewing our Artists page here.
