Get Involved in helping Victims of gun violence
There are so many ways to be involved and help support the Souls Shot Portrait Project!
Please read below to learn more about how you can be involved. Or contact us and we’ll walk you through the process.
All artists over 18, working in any media, are welcome to apply. The project is based in the Philadelphia area but all artists are welcome. Accepted artists will create a portrait of a victim of gun violence. Artists who have already created such a work may submit it for consideration. Artists will be matched with a family or friend of a victim (or may work with a family or friend that you already know). The artist will communicate with the family or friend, receive source material such as photographs and stories, and then create a portrait. The definition of a portrait is to be broadly interpreted. The goal is to present diverse works that in some way show the essence of the person being portrayed.
For family members or friend of a victim of gun violence
Have you lost someone to gun violence? If so, we invite you to participate as a family member or friend. You will be matched with an artist who will create a portrait of your loved one. The artists participating in this project will be working in a variety of styles and media. They are charged with making a portrait in the broad sense of the word (a work that will convey the essence of the person) so not all portraits will be in a realistic style. You will meet with the artist and provide photos, mementos, stories and anything that will help the artist to better know your loved one. Please respond by clicking the PARTICIPATE button below.
Host the Exhibit
Do you have (or know of) a space that would like to host our current exhibition? Help this show be seen by booking an exhibition slot or let us know about a venue that you think would be a great space for these important portraits to be seen in. You can see our exhibition calendar for already-booked times and locations.
Volunteer or Donate
Organizations like Souls Shot Project Project run on donations and the generous help of volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering to plan events, lead students through the exhibition, help with promotion, or find venues, please let us know! Monetary donations help us to promote this project and keep it going year after year. Donations and can be made by clicking the MAKE A DONATION button below. You can also help to support Souls Shot Portrait Project by ordering a catalog of an exhibit — these catalogs are filled with full color images of the portraits and commentary by the artists and family of the victims.
Thank you in advance for your support.
