As a portrait artist, I have painted many faces, yet this work was especially meaningful. Though I never met William, spending time with his likeness allowed me to reflect on his life and the light he brought to others. Creating this portrait was both a privilege and a humbling experience, and I hope it serves as a lasting tribute to his spirit.

William A. Baylor, affectionately known as “Will,” was born on August 18, 1982. Growing up, he was a comedian to all who knew him, often greeting people with his favorite phrase, “Good looking!” Will loved the ladies and made it known, and he had a passion for fashion—especially sneakers, always keeping up with the newest styles.
He deeply loved his family, especially the women, and wasn’t shy about letting them know when he disagreed (often with a laugh). Will had a gift for bringing smiles and lighting up any room he entered. Creative at heart, he loved sketching and writing rap songs, and was part of a music group that published a CD called Game Tyme Hunting Park.
Tragically, on October 18, 2004, just two months after his 22nd birthday, Will was shot and killed in the Hunting Park section of Philadelphia. More than two decades later, he is still deeply missed. The best comfort has been gratitude—for his life, his light, and the impact he left on everyone blessed to know him.
