This portrait of Eric Cruz Romero is built from layers of memory, place, and connection. I began with a map of Bayamón and the surrounding towns in Puerto Rico — grounding the piece in Eric’s roots and the landscape that shaped him.
Eric’s central portrait is surrounded by images of his brothers, reflecting the deep bonds that continue beyond loss. The stitching represents pathways — the lines that tie family, community, and identity together even in the face of violence.
I intended to honor Eric’s presence, his joy, and the love that surrounds him. This piece is a reminder that every life touched by violence holds a story worth witnessing.

Losing a loved one is never easy, and the pain still feels fresh in my heart.
Eric had a kind heart- always had the biggest, most beautiful smile. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone that needed it. He was goofy and loved to make people laugh.
Although Eric is no longer with us, his spirit lives.
Eric is loved and missed by his family and his friends.
Justice For Eric Cruz Romero.
